Derived from the dried husk of the Cholla cactus, Natural Cholla Wood is the smart choice for all conscientious pet owners. These organic softwoods are all natural, thorn-free and treated to make sure there are zero traces of chemicals or harmful substances that may hurt your pets. Natural Cholla Wood is popular among shrimps, fry, fishes, pleco and hermit crabs. The Cholla Wood holes provide hiding spots for the smaller breeds after they molt or when they are feeling vulnerable. They also provides a food source for biofilm that shrimps feed on, similar to what certain leaves do. The wood will eventually break down and disintegrate but it will take at least a year for the thinnest pieces and even longer for the thicker ones. Cholla Wood naturally works great as decorative aquarium pieces. But did you know they can also be used as bird toys? Pet owners have sought out Cholla wood for reptiles, birds, chinchillas, parrots, crabs, rabbits, and hamsters to chew on. Cholla is also useful for decorating any potted plant. Just stand them in any potted plant to add a touch of genuine Southwestern character. Hobbyists have also used the rustic look of Cholla wood for carving craft. Each pack of Natural Cholla Wood contains 3 pieces, each 5 inches long. For transportation purposes, they are shipped to you dried. Always rinse before use, even after boiling or soaking. By the way, a “post-boil soak” in fresh water with a bag of activated carbon is a recommended step too. Although we obtain our products from sources known to be free of pollution, impurities, fertilizers and pesticides, you can never be too careful, and the extra step is worthwhile, in our opinion. Simply soak them in water for 24 – 48 hours and they will start to sink to the bottom of the tank, ready for your aquatic pets to chew and play with. Note: when a cholla wood gets broken or slightly cut, sometimes a layer of biofilm forms on it which is nothing but microorganisms
Excellent Additional Food Source — For shrimps, scavenging is a typical way to look for food. They have plenty of options available in the wild to pursue this activity which accelerates their growth. Thus to have this wood in their habitat is important. They love to chew on this wood. We bet your shrimps would love this addition.
Perfect Climbing Toys — Shrimps don’t go around, they simply climb over on almost anything. With their tiny legs and claws, they are perhaps the most versatile little climbers on the land. Now, get rid of those plastic or rubber climbing sticks. Setup pieces of Cholla Wood to add some height in their habitat and keep them entertained. They would love to climb and venture up and down on these toys making it their playground. You may even spot some naughty fellas’ taking a nap atop.
Provides A Secure Hideaway — These little climbers are also great hiders and would bury themselves for many different reasons such as shedding, resting, cooling down or simply having fun with their “me time”. Comes in a pack of 3, you can arrange SunGrow Cholla Wood as you wish to make crevices or caves giving your pet areas to hide and rest. A Connectable Coco Tunnel Hut by
Directions For Usage —. When you receive your order, make sure that you soak it in hot/boiling saltwater and sundry it before placing it into the tank. Once you have waterlogged them, arrange them beautifully, and maximize all the visual and functional benefits these woods can provide. Please note since it is a raw product, not each piece will have a similar girth, which further adds a hint of realism because your shrimps won’t see the same logs thrice.
